Steering wheel type information

How do I know what type of steering wheel I have?
GPS Adapter can only support OEM equipment and will not be able to support non-OEM product.

Important: GPS Adapter supports OEM Porsche steering wheels and equipment only. Compatibility with non-OEM components is not guaranteed. See the OEM vs. non-OEM control unit guide.

Porsche multifunction and heated steering wheel retrofit adapter-Without Mode Switch

STMV1 and STMV1-H let compatible newer-generation Porsche steering wheels work in earlier vehicles while retaining multifunction controls. STMV1-H also supports steering wheel heating when the vehicle, clock spring, steering control module and replacement wheel are heating-capable.

Compatible Porsche platforms

  • 911: 997 and 991.1
  • Boxster/Cayman: 987 and 981
  • Cayenne: 958.1
  • Panamera: 970.1

Choose the correct adapter

  • STMV1: multifunction steering wheel retrofit without heating support.
  • STMV1-H: multifunction retrofit with heating support.
  • For a Panamera 971-style replacement wheel, choose the STMV1-971.
  • For functional drive-mode switch control on compatible 991.1, 981 or 958.1 models, choose Adapter-X V2.

Installation and coding notes

  • A vehicle originally equipped with a Sport-style wheel without multifunction buttons may require PIWIS coding to enable multifunction controls.
  • A heated-wheel retrofit requires compatible heating hardware and PIWIS activation.
  • A 997.1 retrofit requires a compatible 997.2 steering column control module. Steering wheel heating is not supported on 997.1.
  • Compatibility with aftermarket stereos is not guaranteed.
