Steering wheel type information

How do I know what type of steering wheel I have?
GPS Adapter can only support OEM equipment and will not be able to support non-OEM product.

GPS Adapter supports OEM equipment only and is not compatible with non-OEM products. OEM_VS_Non-OEM_Control_Unit

The STMV1/STMV1-H adapter (wiring harness with computer controller) allows you to install a newer-model or newer-generation steering wheel—with multifunction controls and/or heating—into older vehicles, including:

997, 987, 991.1, 981, 970, 958.1

Newer-model or newer-generation steering wheels you can upgrade to include:

991.2 or similar style like Macan or Cayenne Steering -

95B-1/95B-2, 958.2, 991.2, 718

STMV1/STMV1-H supports these vehicle models:

Carrera 911.1 (2005-2016)

Cayman 981C (2009-2016)

Boxster 981 (2009-2016）

Cayenne 958.1 (2011-2015)

Panamera 970.1 (2010-2016)

If the new steering wheel is 971 Panamera style, please select STMV1-971 adapter.

STMV1-971 and STMV1/STMV1-H cannot support the MODE SWITCH knob to change the drive mode. If you need to add MODE SWITCH control support to 991.1/981/958.1, please select the Adapter-X kits

If the new steering wheel is 95B-1/95B-2/991.2/718/958.2 style, please select STMV1/STMV1-H adapter.

This details the 997.1 upgrade to a new steering wheel:
If you have a 997.1, you will need to upgrade the steering column module to 997.2 (997.613.289.00/997.613.289.01), without steering heating support. Heating is currently not available for 997.1. Compatibility with aftermarket stereos is not guaranteed. If your aftermarket stereo already works with the factory steering wheel controls, the adapter may function without any additional setup. However, if it does not, a CANBUS decoder (such as those from Pioneer or Alpine) may be required. https://mrcanbus.com/products/paser-unican-plus-steering-wheel-control-canbus-interface

* If the vehicle was originally equipped with a Sport-style steering wheel (without multifunction buttons), upgrading to a multifunction steering wheel will require additional vehicle coding using PIWIS to enable the multifunction features. If the vehicle was originally equipped with a Sport Design steering wheel with PDK shift paddles and the Sport Chrono package, no additional multifunction coding is required.

*To use a heated steering wheel, the vehicle must be equipped with a steering control module and clock spring that support the heating function, and the steering wheel itself must be heating-capable. If the vehicle was originally equipped with a non-heated steering wheel and you want to upgrade to a heated steering wheel, you must replace the clock spring with a version that supports heating. After installation, the heating function must be activated using PIWIS.

Received the item as described. It came in very nice packaging. Instructions were very detailed and easy to follow. It took me about 1:30 to remove old steering wheel and install new one. I unplugged the battery for an hour to make sure there was no static charge remaining to activate airbags

981 Sports Steering Wheel Upgrade to 991.2

I decided to upgrade my 981 heated MF PDK steering wheel to a 991.2/718 version with similar functions. As such a STMV1-H adapter was needed. After a bit of intense installation guide studying, the preparations of installing the adapter in the new wheel was completed (with only one re-work). The placement of the adapter in the new wheel had to be re-done, so if any comments to the installation guide maybe a sentence on the need to push it inwards to make sure the airbag module fits.
The end result was excellent. All functions working as required.
A final note: Torque settings are not listed in the installation guide either. Maybe something to include? The backing plate as well as the fixation bolt need specific settings and most you tubers miss this out all together. The backing plate torque is important for the horn to work (just to name one key benefit).
Apart from that, a top product.

Upgraded Porsche 981 Steering Wheel to a 718 MF Steering Wheel Wheel

Very quick delivery - I ordered the GPS Adapter STMV1 on the 11/07/2025 and received on the 17/07/2025. Installed the adapter and all steering wheel functions working without any problems - Didn't need to buy a code and code it in. I went from a 997.2 type steering wheel without MF but my car had 'Sport Chrono' package so guessing it must be already be coded for MF.
