PCCM Plus & a newer steering wheel: what to know

This guide covers Porsche’s new 2026-generation PCCM Plus infotainment systems and planning a newer OEM steering wheel retrofit with GPSadapter.

  • 991.1 / 981: Porsche 911, Boxster and Cayman model years 2012–2016.
  • 997.2 / 987.2: Porsche 911, Boxster and Cayman model years 2009–2013.
  • Steering wheel controls: PCCM Plus supports factory multifunction controls where fitted. GPSadapter converts supported newer-wheel controls to the original vehicle protocol; compatibility is expected on that basis and the new combination has not yet been road-tested by GPSadapter.

Porsche’s latest PCCM Plus announcement opens up a new upgrade path for more 911, Boxster and Cayman owners. If you are also considering a steering wheel retrofit, plan the two upgrades together with Paul.

Factory controls. A newer wheel.

Porsche confirms that the new PCCM Plus supports the vehicle’s original multifunction steering wheel controls where fitted. GPSadapter converts the supported controls of a newer OEM steering wheel to the vehicle’s original multifunction control protocol.

Based on this factory-protocol integration, compatibility with PCCM Plus is expected. Paul can help select the right GPSadapter for your vehicle and wheel.

This expectation is based on the protocol design; the new PCCM Plus combination has not yet been road-tested by GPSadapter. Functions depend on the vehicle, wheel and adapter configuration. Porsche’s multifunction control statement.

A useful compatibility check starts with these details:

  1. Your Porsche model, model year and market.
  2. Your current head unit, and the new PCCM Plus part number or variant you intend to install.
  3. Clear photos of your current and proposed steering wheels, including buttons and Mode Switch if fitted.
  4. Your GPSadapter model, if you already own one, and the functions you want to keep: audio, telephone, heating, paddles or drive mode controls.

Paul can review your configuration and help select the correct adapter and installation plan.

Planning both upgrades?

Start with a configuration check before ordering.

Ask Paul about my setup

Before you order

Will my existing GPSadapter work?

GPSadapter uses the vehicle’s factory multifunction control protocol, which the new PCCM Plus supports. Compatibility is expected on this basis; send your adapter model, car and wheel details to confirm the right configuration.

Can I upgrade the steering wheel first?

We can review a retrofit for your current configuration. If you later change the head unit, recheck compatibility before the PCCM Plus installation.

Does GPSadapter replace the infotainment system?

GPSadapter is a steering wheel retrofit adapter. PCCM Plus is Porsche’s infotainment system. Each upgrade has its own fitment requirements.
